Newly married couples, on the cusp of a new beginning, have so much on their plates! They are in a hurry to start their lives together, but more importantly, they want to bond together in the most romantic way, secluded and serene, yet without stretching their budget. What better destination than Vietnam, which still has some as yet undiscovered gems of quaint locations, which can be an ideal backdrop to create lifetime memories. By the way, not just for newlyweds, these lesser-known destinations can prove to be a catalyst for couples trying to rediscover their mojo.

Whether you are the couple with an adventurous streak who thrives on adrenaline rushes, or the kind who loves history and all things quaint, or the type who just wants to relax and get pampered, or maybe a little of all the above, Vietnam lets you fashion your ideal honeymoon.

Hanoi can be a good starting point to ease into Vietnamese culture and food scene and prepare the senses about what to expect. You can take a walking tour of the Old Quarter of the city and visit some iconic spots like the Temple of Literature and the ancient One Pillar Pagoda while creating memorable photo ops by dressing up in traditional Vietnamese attire, the Ao dai. Introduce your palate to Vietnamese coffee shop fares, especially egg coffee, which is a unique concoction found only in Hanoi.

How about going that extra mile to make it a honeymoon like no other by cruising along the Ha Long Bay! Feel regal and pampered by sailing on a luxury cruise ship, and remember wedding vows over magical sunrises and romantic dinners on the deck at sunset, with green, undulating islands being the only silent witnesses to your fresh love. The clear, blue sea and the marine life can best be enjoyed while swimming or scuba diving there.  Some hotels have their own private beaches, thus giving you two all the time and privacy you need.

Getting off the beaten path, how about expanding your horizon of history by making a quick visit to Non Nuoc, a sleepy little village close to Da Nang? The village has a history of stone craftsmen, dating back to the 15th century and even has its own local festival celebrated on the sixth day of the first lunar month.  You can pick up the village craft products, which traditionally included rice mortars and grain grinders but now offer a tourist-friendly product range. Its seafood eateries and beach activities only rival the unspoiled beauty of this beach destination.

It is said that married life is like finding your way through a maze. Why not become maze runners by visiting the limestone cave complex within the Phong Nha Ke Bang National Park? This UNESCO World Heritage Site, which is home to Son Doong, the largest natural cave in the world, still has many unexplored zones, and the canal rides through this staggering vista can only be seen to be believed.

Fansipan Mountain

If you and your partner are hiking enthusiasts, then a great getaway for you is Fansipan Mountain, the tallest peak in Vietnam. Mostly ignored by tourists, who usually make a beeline for Vietnam’s famous rice-terraced Spa Village, this spot, just nine kilometres away, offers a great opportunity to experience the hospitality of the Giay, Hmong and Red Dao Hill tribes. You can book yourself at a homestay and sample the local cuisine while learning about the tribal culture and way of life.

Some pristine getaways-

Côn Đảo Island

Con Dao is an island paradise. Con Son, the largest of this chain of 15 islands and islets, is ringed with lovely beaches, coral reefs and scenic bays and remains partially covered in tropical forests. Besides hiking, diving and exploring deserted coastal roads, there are excellent wildlife-watching opportunities, such as the black giant squirrel and endemic bow-fingered gecko.

Isolated from the mainland, the Con Dao islands are one of Vietnam's star attractions, the pristine beauty of the place now turn heads. Con Son has its own tragic history. It was hell on earth for the thousands of prisoners who were tormented and imprisoned in a dozen jails during French rule and the American-backed regime. With the commencement of low-cost boat connections, the island's popularity and visits by foreign travellers have increased off late.
